Data Science in Communication and Media
New specialization offered in the “Master of Science in Digital Communication Media and Interaction Environments”, of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. The Master of Science is designed to equip journalists, media executives, and marketing professionals with advanced skills for handling large amounts of data.?
Our target audience
The data journalism specialization is a 3-semester program that offers to the participants the computational skills needed for data mining, analysis, and visualization along with machine learning and natural language processing techniques that can be used for deep investigations. This new specialization aims to make students feel comfortable about using data to tell stories and promote high-quality journalism. The applicants are not required to have any prior knowledge in these specific topics, as the courses are designed to cover all the basics in the beginning.
Description of the program
The winter semester courses start in Mid-October and for the completion of the program, the student should collect 90 ECTS. The program is structured in thematic cycles (specializations) that are offered in the first two semesters, while the third is devoted to the thesis. Students may choose 3 courses per semester, irrespective of course, according to their particular scientific interests.
