This paper presents the preliminary outputs of the EU project CALYPSO which aims to create a crowdsourcing ecosystem for citizens to volunteer to combat disinformation campaigns by participating in a game for good. CALYPSO seeks to enhance fact-checking through the participation of different actors with different levels of responsibilities and privileges forming communities of practice. These communities will involve professional journalists, experts, and ordinary citizens in an attempt to combine their respective strengths and through collaboration to early detect and fact-check suspected cases of disinformation in real-time. For this crowdsourcing platform to work efficiently, this paper proposes gamification as a means of motivating digital readers to become members of a dedicated community of practice in the domain of disinformation.
